                       Enhanced Swim Model                

• In YMCA swim lessons, students will learn water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase cognitive well-being and foster a lifetime of physical activity.


• All lessons are conducted under the supervision of certified lifeguards and taught by nationally certified swim instructors trained in CPR, AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration.


• Our swim curriculum is based on extensive research, providing personalized attention and letting students set the pace.              

            Infant and Toddler Swim Lessons                            

Accompanied by an adult, infants and toddlers ages 6-36 months learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention and the importance of supervision. Parents work with their children to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

          Preschool and School Age Swim Lessons                       

Beginners ages 3-5 and grades K-12 will develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn personal water safety with two essential skills in all classes:
• Swim, float, swim — Sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit
• Jump, push, turn, grab — After students are comfortable submerging in the water, they will begin to learn rudimentary swimming skills, followed by work on rhythmic breathing, integrated arm and leg action and introduction to the basics of breaststroke and butterfly kick.

At the Y, our sports staff, coaches and volunteers all share a singular vision of helping all youth reach their full potential in life. We leverage the excitement and passion around recreational and competitive programming to create a healthy outlet for children to gain new skills, develop a sense of team and connect with positive role models.

YOUTH SOCCER

BE GOAL ORIENTED! Youth Soccer is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills. YMCA youth soccer promises no try outs, no getting cut and no bench warmers! While basic skills of the game are developed through practices and games, every child learns sportsmanship and values necessary to be successful in life.


SEASONS: Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter*

LEAGUES:

AGES 3 – 4 COED

This is an introduction to soccer and sports socialization. Children play on a field appropriate for their age with no goalie. Teams practice for 20-30 minutes before each game and a size 3 ball is used. Coaches officiate while teaching children during the course of games.

AGES 5-7 COED

Children in this division start to learn many of the rules of soccer. Teams practice one night a week for one hour. Children learn throw-ins and corner kicks, along with a modified goal kick. They play on a field appropriate for their age with a goalie and a size 4 ball is used. The official(s) take an active role in coaching as well as enforcing the rules.

AGES 8-10 COED

Emphasis is placed on skill development and learning the rules of the game. Teams practice one night a week for one hour. They play with a size 4 ball.

AGES 11-14 COED

This division continues to emphasize skill development and the importance of teamwork.

Teams practice one night a week for one hour. They

play with a size 5 ball.

SUPPLIES

Players will receive a shirt to play in. Each player will need shorts, shin guards, socks and soccer cleats or tennis shoes.

TUMBLE & CHEER

Tumble & Cheer offers the perfect opportunity for kids to develop self-reliance and self-confidence on an individual level while stressing the importance of teamwork within a cheer, or tumble, squad. Youth will learn basic skills, chants, cheers, jumps, and stunts while experiencing performances in front of a crowd. Participants will perform and cheer for the Youth Fundamental Basketball games. This session will run for 6 weeks.

PRACTICES: The YMCA offers one 60-minute practice per week.

FOCUS: YMCA utilizes volunteer coaches to focus on participation and fun! While basic skills of the game are developed through practices and games, every child learns sportsmanship and values necessary to be successful in life. Every game begins with a Youth Sports Pledge and ends with a handshake.

PROGRAM OFFERINGS: Fall & Winter

The YMCA Youth Sports Program helps kids become not only become better players, but better people as well. It's a progressive program, with multiple age-specific levels. Every child gets to play and the games are safe, exciting and fun. We encourage fair play, positive competition, and family involvement.

T-BALL

THE BASICS

The purpose of this league is to teach children the basics of the game of baseball. All children will hit the ball off of a tee. Children will be taught defensive fundamentals such as defensive positions, how to properly catch a ball, and how/when to throw it to a base. Offensive fundamentals such as keeping your eye on the ball when batting, running to the correct base, and when to run to the next base, will be emphasized.

Fun and learning are the main goals for our tee ball program! Children will be taught the different positions, and everyone will get to bat! Teams will practice 1 time per week, and have 1 game on the weekend.


AGE GROUP

This tee ball league is for children ages 3 to 5 years old.

COACHES

Committed and caring volunteers are needed to coach, and teaching the basic fundamentals of baseball. On game days, coaches will be responsible the flow and running of games.

SUPPLIES

Players will receive a shirt to play in. Each player will need pants, a glove, and cleats/shoes.

The Pendleton YMCA works to provide top-notch sports training programs that are designed to assist each participant with the growth and development of their individual skill levels while teaching teamwork and sportsmanship.  Secondly, we strive to use the avenue of sports to teach and incorporate the character values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.
